I think when you read the original, it’s so obvious that the Christian content just doesn’t fit with the time and place that the author is trying to portray. It always seems like such a crowbar to me, like they were obliged to put it in. But to read it without those elements… It feels a window onto that world. I know it’s fiction, but it fits so well!
Time to go back and read from the beginning again.
